Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Two Suspects for Possession of Controlled Substances
On November 9, 2023, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a welfare check at Fred Meyer’s parking lot located at 12120 N. Division Street in Spokane. A concerned citizen had reported two individuals passed out inside a white Pontiac. Upon arrival, the deputies contacted store security, who confirmed that a female had left the vehicle and entered the store.
The deputies approached the vehicle and discovered a male, identified as 32-year-old Jordan G. Swanson, slumped over and unconscious inside. In his right hand, Swanson was holding a clear plastic baggie containing multiple small round blue pills suspected to be Fentanyl, a potent controlled substance.
Upon waking up and noticing the deputies, Swanson immediately attempted to hide the baggie and pills near the center console of the vehicle. As he exited the vehicle, a significant amount of smoke billowed out, emitting a caustic smell unlike marijuana or cigarettes. The deputies safely detained Swanson and advised him of his rights, but he chose to remain silent and refused to provide identification.
Meanwhile, one of the deputies entered the store and located the female, identified as 32-year-old Stacie L. Zimmerman. She was apprehended and brought back to the vehicle. Zimmerman agreed to answer questions and identified herself and Swanson. However, she declined to consent to a search of the vehicle.
A background check on Swanson revealed an active misdemeanor warrant for Reckless Driving. Based on probable cause established during the investigation, the deputies obtained a search warrant for the vehicle. During the search, they discovered a clear baggie containing 19 small blue pills known as ‘mexis,’ believed to contain Fentanyl, near the center console. Additionally, they seized a black bag from Swanson’s lap, which contained a clear baggie with pieces of a white crystalline substance suspected to be Methamphetamine. The deputies also found three Suboxone pouches, a glass smoking pipe with brown/white residue, two straws, pieces of foil with melted/burnt brown residue, additional foil, and foil containing what appeared to be two melted blue pills.
Zimmerman was then transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl). Swanson, on the other hand, was transported and booked into the same jail for his outstanding misdemeanor warrant, as well as two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine & Fentanyl).
However, as the deputy was leaving the jail to complete the necessary paperwork and book the seized evidence into property, he noticed Zimmerman and Swanson leaving the facility. Both suspects had been administratively released from custody and were heading back into the community.
