A shocking incident took place in Indiana over the weekend, where a 20-year-old man named Johnathan M. Quatroche was arrested for allegedly brutally killing his girlfriend’s pet rabbit. The incident occurred when the victim, identified as Quatroche’s girlfriend, went to take a shower. Upon returning, she was devastated to find that Quatroche had already killed her beloved pet by bashing its head in. The victim’s distress escalated when Quatroche threatened her by saying that she was “next” to die. This horrifying act has led to Quatroche being charged with animal cruelty and intimidation.
Law enforcement officials from the Muncie Police Department were alerted to the incident by the victim’s father, who made the distressing 911 call. Upon arriving at the apartment complex located in the 3000 block of West Bethel Avenue, officers found the victim in a highly distraught state, with her parents arriving shortly after their arrival.
In her statement to the police, the victim narrated the sequence of events that unfolded. She mentioned that she had been at her apartment with Quatroche, whom she identified as her boyfriend, and had gone to take a shower. When she emerged from the shower, she was devastated to discover that Quatroche had already killed her pet rabbit. The rabbit and its cage were nowhere to be found in the apartment at that time. Initially, Quatroche claimed it was an accident, but when the victim expressed her anger and grief, he admitted to intentionally killing the rabbit. Furthermore, he threatened the victim by saying that she had to go, and she was next. Quatroche eventually left the apartment, prompting the victim to call her family and inform them about the distressing situation.
After being interviewed by the police, the victim provided a voluntary statement detailing Quatroche’s alleged actions. She also revealed that there had been previous instances of domestic issues with Quatroche, including physical abuse that resulted in bruising.
During the investigation, evidence was collected from the scene. An officer searching the dumpster outside the apartment discovered the dead rabbit, its head smashed and covered in blood.
When Quatroche was subjected to a post-Miranda interview, he refused to speak about the incident and invoked his right to remain silent. He was promptly taken into custody without any resistance.
Following his arrest, Quatroche was booked into the Delaware County Jail. He was later released after posting a bond of $10,000.
This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing animal cruelty, as well as the need to provide support for victims of domestic abuse.
