Tragedy struck in Davao Del Norte when a pregnant woman’s attempt to surprise her live-in partner with happy news ended in a heartbreaking incident. This occurred after a powerful earthquake hit Purok 3, Brgy. La Filipina, Tagum City on Saturday evening, December 2, 2023.
The victim, Kenneth Joy Gemarino, was carrying her partner John Ryan Martir’s second child, which she had planned to reveal as a surprise. However, her life was tragically cut short by the earthquake.
According to a resident of the area who requested anonymity, Gemarino, Martir, and their six-year-old son quickly left their house when the earthquake struck. Unfortunately, a nearby 15-foot-high wall collapsed, causing fatal head injuries to Gemarino. Martir sustained injuries to his hand and other parts of his body, while their son miraculously escaped unharmed.
Emergency services rushed the victims to Christ the King Specialist Hospital for treatment, but Gemarino was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The collapsed wall is believed to have been old, which may have contributed to its sudden collapse.
Gemarino’s body is currently at the hospital morgue, while her husband continues to recover from his injuries..
