Answering the Boss’s Question: Debunking the Plot Armor Myth
In response to a tweet from Baba Au Arelius, we are here to address the question of plot armor in popular anime characters. Baba Au Arelius sarcastically asks which character in a picture doesn’t have plot armor, while highlighting the deaths and comebacks of Goku from Dragon Ball, the power-ups of Naruto from Naruto, and Luffy from One Piece. However, Baba Au Arelius draws the line at Ichigo from Bleach.
It’s true that many beloved anime characters have experienced seemingly impossible comebacks, power-ups, or deaths and resurrections. However, it is important to understand the concept of plot armor and how it is often misunderstood.
Plot armor refers to a situation in which a character seems to be protected or favored by the plot itself, making them immune to harm or failure. It can create a sense of predictability and diminish the stakes of a story. While it is true that characters like Goku, Naruto, and Luffy have had their fair share of fortunate events, it does not mean that they are the only ones with plot armor.
Ichigo Kurosaki, the protagonist of the Bleach series, has faced numerous life-threatening situations throughout the story. He has been pushed to the brink of death and has undergone significant power-ups as well. However, what sets Ichigo apart is the way his character development is closely tied to these moments of crisis.
Unlike Goku, Naruto, or Luffy, Ichigo’s growth is not solely dependent on external factors such as power-ups. His journey is deeply rooted in personal struggles, inner conflicts, and the exploration of his own identity. Each power-up or near-death experience serves a purpose in his character development, allowing him to overcome his limitations and evolve as a person.
Furthermore, the idea of plot armor can be subjective and varies from person to person. What may seem like plot armor to one viewer might be seen as logical progression or character development to another. It is essential to consider the narrative context, thematic elements, and the overall storytelling approach when evaluating whether a character has plot armor or not.
In conclusion, it is unfair to single out Ichigo from Bleach as having plot armor while overlooking the similar occurrences in other popular anime series. Goku, Naruto, and Luffy have all experienced their fair share of fortunate events and miraculous power-ups. Ultimately, the concept of plot armor should be viewed in a broader context, taking into account the character’s journey, growth, and the overall storytelling approach..

Answer the question boss. Which character in the picture there doesn’t have plot armor? Do you know how many times goku has died and come back? How many times has naruto or luffy miraculously gotten a power up in the middle of a fight? But you draw the line at Ichigo? Please
