A Selbyville man named Moises Espinoza-Saldivar was arrested on felony charges after allegedly attempting to run over three construction workers with his work van in Frankford, Delaware. The incident took place on November 11 at around 9:44 a.m., when the Delaware State Police Department received a call about a man being struck by a white work van on Cape Lane.
Upon arrival, troopers apprehended Espinoza-Saldivar, the driver of the van. During their investigation, they discovered that Espinoza-Saldivar had confronted his ex-wife after seeing her conversing with the construction workers outside her home. Witnesses reported that during the argument, Espinoza-Saldivar knocked a drink out of his ex-wife’s hands before getting back into his van and accelerating towards the three workers who were standing near a deck. The workers attempted to evade the van, but one of them was struck and pinned against the deck.
The injured worker, a 44-year-old man, was airlifted to a trauma hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. The incident took place in the presence of two children on the deck, and two more children came outside upon hearing the commotion.
During the arrest of Espinoza-Saldivar, law enforcement officers noticed signs of impairment and detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. They also found a small bottle of whiskey in his jacket pocket during a search. As a result, Espinoza-Saldivar was charged with multiple offenses, including Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Endangering First Degree, Vehicular Assault Second Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence, Driving While Revoked, and Offensive Touching. He was arraigned and remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a cash bond of $88,300.
