A 71-year-old man from Carmel, Indiana, has been charged with criminal confinement and public indecency after allegedly demanding oral sex from a cleaning woman in a men’s restroom. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, and the man has provided inconsistent statements about the encounter. Tyrone Frazier III reported
A 71-year-old man named Ronald D’Onofrio from Carmel, Indiana, has been charged with criminal confinement, public indecency, and activity related to obscene performance after allegedly sexually assaulting a cleaning service woman in a men’s bathroom. The incident occurred at an office building on Congressional Boulevard on October 23rd at around 3:30 p.m.
According to court documents, the victim, who primarily spoke Spanish, noticed that the men’s room was occupied before she began cleaning. She waited for all occupants to exit the restroom and then entered to start her cleaning. However, she was startled when D’Onofrio appeared behind her in the doorway, with his pants pulled down just below his genitals. He proceeded to touch and fondle himself while demanding oral sex from the woman.
The victim, feeling frightened and fearing for her safety, managed to escape from D’Onofrio’s grasp and found someone to help her. She later reported the incident to the police.
Upon reviewing the security camera footage from the building, investigators observed the cleaning woman waiting outside the bathroom and entering after D’Onofrio left. He then reentered the restroom shortly after her and remained there for approximately 22 seconds, during which the reported incident occurred.
Two witnesses provided statements to the police, confirming that the victim had approached them and used hand gestures to explain that D’Onofrio had demanded oral sex from her.
During an interview with D’Onofrio, he claimed that he had left the restroom after his initial use but then felt the urge to go again, prompting him to return. He alleged that the woman did not speak English and that he asked her to leave, but she refused. He stated that the interaction lasted only about 15 seconds and denied touching the woman.
However, detectives noted several inconsistencies in D’Onofrio’s statements, indicating possible deception. They found discrepancies between his description of events and the surveillance footage. Additionally, they discovered that he had purposely chosen to use the restroom on the second floor instead of the one on the first floor.
An initial hearing for D’Onofrio has not yet been scheduled..
