Mobile Police Release Statement on Fatal Accident on I-65 near Airport Blvd. Exit
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile Police Department has issued a detailed statement regarding a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two individuals on Southbound I-65 near the entrance ramp to I-65 from Airport Boulevard. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at approximately 4:00 a.m.
According to the statement, upon reaching the accident scene, responding officers discovered two male victims inside one of the vehicles, both of whom had tragically passed away.
Initial investigations suggest that the driver of the second vehicle was traveling south on I-65 when the driver of the first vehicle, who was attempting to enter the interstate from eastbound Airport Boulevard, lost control of their vehicle. This loss of control caused their vehicle to stall, leaving it vulnerable to being struck by the second vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver of the first vehicle, identified as 38-year-old Ronald Jones, did not survive the impact. The identity of the deceased passenger has not been disclosed, pending notification of their next of kin.
Fortunately, the driver of the second vehicle managed to escape the wreckage after it became engulfed in flames. They were subsequently transported to the hospital with injuries that, while not life-threatening, still required medical attention.
Preliminary findings reveal that the driver of the second vehicle showed no signs of impairment, suggesting that this tragic incident may have been a result of unfortunate circumstances rather than any negligent behavior. However, the investigation is still ongoing, with authorities working diligently to gather all the necessary evidence and information.
