A gang of gamblers, reportedly led by the son of a local village leader, attacked a police team and damaged their vehicle in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Four police personnel, including a sub inspector, were injured. Efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers. Sandeep Bhaskar reported
At least four police personnel, including a sub inspector, were wounded in an altercation with a group of gamblers, allegedly led by the son of a local village head, in a village located in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district late Friday night. The incident occurred when a police team went in search of the gamblers based on a tip-off they received at Kasawa Tola of Baraka Gaon Dakshini panchayat, which falls under the jurisdiction of Karja police station. Around 1:30 am on Saturday, as the police approached, they were bombarded with a barrage of stones thrown by the gamblers. The attack resulted in injuries to four police personnel, as well as damage to a police vehicle.
Kumar Chandan, the sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Saraiya, confirmed the incident, stating, “Four police personnel were injured in the attack and a police vehicle was damaged.” The injured officers have been identified as sub inspector (SI) Narendra Kumar and constables Bidaram, Brajesh Kumar, and Pankaj Kumar.
The station house officer (SHO) of Karja police station, Rakesh Kumar, informed that no arrests have been made as of yet, but raids are currently underway to apprehend the attackers. The police are determined to bring those responsible to justice.
