Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticizes the assault on BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal, stating that calling someone a “goonda” in front of Agrawal insults the term itself. Baghel expresses confidence in the victory of Congress candidates in the upcoming elections. The Hindu reported
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in a press conference in Raipur, expressed his disapproval towards the act of calling someone a “goonda” (goon) in front of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Brijmohan Agrawal. Baghel stated that it is an insult to the word itself. His comments came in response to an alleged incident where Agrawal was assaulted while campaigning in his constituency in Raipur.
Following the incident, several BJP leaders and workers held a protest at Kotwali police station, demanding action. Baghel, when asked about the incident, stated that no one can attack Agrawal and pointed out that in the video of the alleged incident, Agrawal himself is seen pushing. He further suggested that the incident indicates Agrawal’s lagging position in the elections.
Baghel also remarked that referring to someone as a “gunda” (goon) in front of Agrawal is an insult to the word itself. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the victory of Congress candidates in Raipur City South and Rajnandgaon, where former Chief Minister Raman Singh was the BJP’s nominee.
In the Raipur City South constituency, Congress has fielded Mahant Ram Sundar Das, the chief priest of the famous Dudhadhari Math of Raipur, against incumbent Agrawal. On November 9, Agrawal claimed that he was assaulted by individuals associated with Congress leader Ajaz Dhebar and his brother Anwar Dhebar while campaigning in Baijnath Para.
Police have arrested a man named Mohammad Sajid Khan, alias Chintu, in connection with the incident. Since the case was registered under bailable offenses, the accused was released on bail.
Overall, Baghel’s comments highlight the political tension and accusations surrounding the alleged assault on Agrawal and the ongoing election campaign in Chhattisgarh..
