Ahmedabad: Within a span of just 24 hours, the city crime branch successfully apprehended a man who had allegedly snatched a bag containing cash and valuables worth Rs 12 lakh from a woman in Naranpura. The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by Sonal Patel, a 47-year-old resident of Unico Apartments near Amikunj Crossroads. Patel, whose husband is a doctor at a private hospital near Helmet Crossroads, explained to the police that she had planned a Diwali trip to Mahabaleshwar. In order to keep her valuables and cash safe, she had decided to store them in a locker at a private bank near the crossroads. As she was walking towards the bank on Thursday morning, a scooterist suddenly snatched her bag and fled the scene.
The city crime branch wasted no time and immediately initiated their investigation. With the help of human and technical surveillance, they were able to track down the suspect within a day. The man was identified as Rahil Mansuri, 35, and was arrested from his residence in Jam Saheb Gali in Karanj on Friday. Mansuri has been previously involved in four thefts and a loot in 2010, as well as three chain-snatching cases in 2020 in Ahmedabad.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of taking precautions to ensure personal safety and the protection of valuable belongings. It also highlights the commendable work of the city crime branch in swiftly apprehending the suspect and bringing him to justice.
In related news, the Chennai police have advised women to wear scarves around their necks while shopping during Diwali to prevent chain-snatching incidents. They have also implemented additional safety measures such as temporary watch towers, extra CCTV cameras, and the deployment of plainclothes police personnel. Similar incidents have occurred in Madurai, where the police were forced to shoot a suspect involved in a chain-snatching case. The suspect, Stephen Raj, was injured in the leg during the altercation. Additionally, the Mumbai Crime Branch recently arrested the main accused, Rajveer Khant, for sending threatening ransom emails to businessman Mukesh Ambani. The investigation revealed that Khant committed the offense as mischief, and he has been charged accordingly.
Overall, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their belongings from potential crimes such as theft and chain-snatching. The efforts of law enforcement agencies in swiftly apprehending suspects and ensuring public safety are commendable and play a vital role in maintaining law and order in society..
