An Arkansas man has been apprehended by the police in Henderson, Kentucky after he allegedly fled in a stolen car and crashed it into a lake. The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday when officers from the Mount Vernon, Indiana Police Department pulled over a vehicle that had a stolen license plate from Jonesboro, Arkansas.
According to the police, when the officers ordered the occupants of the vehicle to exit, the driver sped off in an eastbound direction on Old Highway 62. The officers initiated a pursuit on Indian Mounds Road, but the driver lost control of the vehicle during a curve, veered through the grass, and ultimately overturned into a lake.
While the driver, identified as 19-year-old Joshua Caines from Jonesboro, managed to escape and flee towards a wooded area, a 17-year-old passenger from Jonesboro was detained by the police. Deputies from the Posey County Sheriff’s Office were called in to establish a perimeter, and with the assistance of a K9 unit, Caines was eventually apprehended. During a search of the stolen vehicle, a quantity of marijuana was discovered.
After receiving medical clearance, Caines was transported to the Posey County Jail to face charges, including Resisting Law Enforcement Using a Vehicle (Level 6 Felony), Theft of a Vehicle (Level 6 Felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Level A Misdemeanor), Possession of Marijuana (Level B Misdemeanor), Driving Without Ever Obtaining a License (Level C Misdemeanor), and Reckless Driving (Level A Misdemeanor). Meanwhile, the 17-year-old passenger was released to a parent after clearing medical evaluation.
The Mount Vernon Police Department shared images of the arrest and the overturned vehicle involved in the incident, highlighting the successful apprehension of Caines. The police are continuing their investigation into the stolen vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
