The Uttar Pradesh anti-terrorist squad (ATS) apprehended a suspected terrorist with alleged connections to ISIS in Bhilai, Durg district. The suspect, Wajihuddin alias Wajir, was a teacher at a coaching center in Aligarh and was associated with the ISIS ideology. He was arrested after a joint operation between the ATS and state police. Raipur: Late on Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh anti-terrorist squad (ATS) apprehended a suspected terrorist with alleged connections to the ISIS in Bhilai of Durg district. The arrest was made in a joint operation between the ATS unit of Jhansi and the state police. The accused, identified as Wajihuddin, was a teacher at a coaching center in Aligarh. The ATS had filed a case against him in Lucknow police station under several sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. Wajihuddin was found hiding in a house in the Supela region of Bhilai after a 24-hour search.
During the initial questioning, Wajihuddin admitted to being associated with a student from Aligarh Muslim University and declared himself a “supporter and propagator of the ISIS ideology” by taking an oath of allegiance. He is also believed to have links with another active member of the ISIS, Mohd Rizwan, who was previously arrested by the Delhi police. The police have seized documents and literature related to Al Qaida and ISIS from Wajihuddin’s possession.
In recent times, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has been actively working to dismantle ISIS networks. They have arrested several individuals associated with ISIS sympathizers from Aligarh Muslim University. The ATS is determined to uncover the entire network of these suspects and prevent any potential terror activities in the state..
