A drug racket that supplied drugs to addicts living near the Yamuna floodplain has been uncovered in New Delhi. The Crime Branch recently conducted a raid on a drug de-addiction center in northwest Delhi, resulting in the arrest of the center’s in-charge as well as several vagabonds and criminals involved in the operation. In response to the discovery, the police have requested the drug department to revoke the center’s license. The drug cartel operated in collaboration with the center’s in-charge, a medical store, and eight suppliers.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, had previously instructed the Police Commissioner, Sanjay Arora, to tackle drug trafficking and abuse in the area. In accordance with this directive, the anti-narcotic task force of the Crime Branch, the north district police, and the drug departments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh joined forces to eliminate drug peddlers from the area.
During the operation, law enforcement seized twenty-two strips of Buprenorphine, 28 syringes, 74 needles, 850 vials of Avil, and seven bags containing 2,800 injections of other drugs. One of the individuals arrested, Kherunisha alias Meena, is originally from West Bengal but lives in Loni. She was allegedly involved in the murder of her son-in-law in Khajuri Khas. Although her son Ajay and a contract killer named Sonu remain in jail, Meena was granted bail five months ago.
During questioning, Meena informed the police that Sonu and Amir, residents of Sonia Vihar, used to supply injections and tablets to a man named Rashid. Sonu earned between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500 per day, with Amir acting as his partner in this illicit “business.” All of these individuals have been apprehended.
The fifth individual to be arrested is Pradeep, a 54-year-old resident of Jahangirpuri who worked as the in-charge of the de-addiction center. Pradeep embezzled the center’s stock of drugs by using the documents of addicts undergoing treatment and sold Buprenorphine at inflated prices to drug peddlers.
Ravindra Yadav, the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), provided further details about the operation. He stated that the joint team raided a de-addiction center named Elegant Clinic in Jahangirpuri, where they discovered that Pradeep was involved in drug trafficking. Examination of the center’s registers and drug inventory revealed that Pradeep had been pilfering drugs using the Aadhar cards of addicts receiving treatment. He then sold these drugs to trafficking gangs at higher prices. The gangs, in turn, sold the drugs to addicts and vagabonds in areas including Hanuman Mandir, Chatta Rail, ISBT, Yamuna Bazar, and Nigam Bodh Ghat.
Based on information provided by Sonu and Amir, the police seized a carton of Avil injections from King Pharmacy, where Sonu used to purchase the injections through an individual named Akhilesh. Subsequently, a raid was conducted in Loni, Ghaziabad, resulting in the seizure of more vials from a shop that was subsequently sealed. Additionally, three individuals who supplied Avil injections to Sonu were placed under police surveillance. Two other shops in Bhagirath Place, from which the accused individuals procured the vials, may have their licenses revoked.
In conclusion, an extensive drug racket operating in the vicinity of the Yamuna floodplain in New Delhi has been dismantled. The arrest of the in-charge of a de-addiction center, along with several criminals and vagabonds involved in the operation, has dealt a significant blow to the drug cartel. Law enforcement agencies conducted a joint operation to eradicate drug peddlers from the area, resulting in the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs. This successful operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the region, as directed by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi..
