SAN JOSE — The San Jose Police Department has confirmed the arrest of a second teenage boy in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that took the life of a mother and critically injured her unborn child. The arrest of the 15-year-old boy took place on November 2, following the deadly incident that occurred on October 24 at Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Boulevard in South San Jose.
According to the police, a stolen Hyundai sedan ran a red light while heading south on Winfield, colliding with a Nissan sedan traveling east on Blossom Hill. The two male suspects in the stolen vehicle then fled the scene on foot. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 21-year-old April Zoglauer, was sadly pronounced dead at the hospital. Her baby was delivered through cesarean section in critical condition but unfortunately passed away from injuries the next day.
Investigators were able to identify one of the suspects as a 15-year-old boy who was driving the stolen Hyundai. Special operations officers arrested the unidentified suspect on October 28 in San Jose and subsequently booked him into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.
This incident marks the 42nd fatal collision and the 43rd and 44th traffic deaths in San Jose this year. Sergeant Jorge Garibay, a police spokesman, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the community in tracking down the suspect. Numerous images and social media links were submitted, aiding investigators in their efforts.
Sgt. Garibay also emphasized the importance of sharing any possible surveillance footage or photos of suspects directly with the police department instead of circulating them on social media. This will help expedite the identification process and ensure the credibility of the evidence.
The second teenager arrested on November 2 has also been booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. CBS News extends its thanks to readers and encourages them to create a free account or log in for access to additional features..
