Search Underway in New Jersey for Gregory Yetman, Suspect in Jan. 6 Capitol Riots
A search is currently underway in Middlesex County, New Jersey, for Gregory Yetman, who is wanted by the FBI for his alleged involvement in the January 6th Capitol riots. Yetman, who was recently the subject of a USA TODAY investigation, is one of the many individuals who were identified from photos and videos of the riots but had not yet been charged or arrested.
Videos from January 6th show a man believed to be Yetman picking up a large canister of pepper spray and using it against Capitol police and protesters. These photos of the suspect were then posted on the FBI’s wanted list for the insurrection, labeling him as suspect #278 AFO, which stands for “Assault on a Federal Officer.”
At the time of the riot, Yetman was serving as a military police sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard. In an earlier interview with USA TODAY, he claimed to have been present at the Capitol but denied committing any crimes. He stated that he had already been interviewed by the FBI shortly after the incident and believed that everything had been resolved.

To date, federal prosecutors have charged over 1,000 individuals in connection with the raid on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. However, many individuals identified from visual evidence are still at large.
Former federal prosecutor Patrick Cotter commented on the delay in identifying and arresting the remaining individuals on the wanted list. He emphasized that just because Yetman has not been apprehended or charged yet does not mean he is not on the government’s radar.
