Grand Island Woman Arrested for Assault on Officer and Drug Possession
A 47-year-old woman from Grand Island, Nebraska, identified as Mary Johnson, has been taken into custody at the Hall County Jail following an incident that occurred on Monday evening. Johnson is facing charges of felony assault on an officer and felony possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanor resisting arrest and a drug paraphernalia infraction.
The charges against Johnson stem from an incident at the Casey’s gas station on N. Eddy Street, where Grand Island Police were called to remove her from the premises. Due to her condition, Grand Island Fire was also called to the scene as she repeatedly claimed to have medicine in her coat. When questioned about the type of medicine, Johnson responded with “heart” and later admitted to having methamphetamine.
After being taken to CHI Health St. Francis, Johnson resisted officers who were attempting to handcuff her and started to fight. During the altercation, she bit one of the officers on the arm. Subsequently, Grand Island Police found 78.5 grams of meth, a digital scale, and two meth pipes in her coat.
Johnson was scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on Tuesday, but according to court documents, she was under the influence and her first appearance was postponed until Wednesday. Her bond has been set at 10% of $25,000.
