MILWAUKEE –
Court documents reveal that on Friday, November 3, a registered sex offender fatally shot himself at a gas station in Milwaukee. It was later discovered that he was the suspect in the disappearance of a woman, whose body was found in Walworth County the day before.
The individual who took his own life at a gas station near 91st and Silver Spring on Friday has been identified as Jerome Thames.
According to a search warrant, the Milwaukee police received a missing person/welfare check call for Cieara Berry at a residence near 13th and Hadley on Friday morning. The caller, Berry’s mother, expressed concern as she hadn’t seen her daughter for several days and mentioned that Berry was last seen with Thames.
When officers arrived at the residence, they were unable to make contact with anyone. It was during the investigation that the Department of Corrections (DOC) informed the Milwaukee police that Thames was a registered sex offender and under GPS monitoring. The DOC agent was able to locate Thames in the area of 91st and Silver Spring.
Tawana Watkins, Berry’s sister, last heard from her on Wednesday and is devastated by her loss. She pleads for it to be a dream, unable to accept the reality of her sister’s death.

As officers approached Thames at the gas station, he drew a handgun and shot himself in the head, taking his own life, according to the search warrant.
Berry’s body was found on the side of Creek Road in Darien on November 2. The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death as a homicide, as she had been shot in the head and torso.
Watkins continues to question why such a beautiful person was taken away from her family.
Berry’s death has left Watkins and her family with only memories.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Berry’s family.
More information regarding this case is expected to be released by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
