So far in 2023, there have been eight homicides as well.
The first incident occurred on October 23, when Michael Hairston was found dead in his apartment. Angelina Spade, a 19-year-old, was arrested by the sheriff’s office and charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Another incident took place on November 2, in which Jadakuis Mitchell was shot and killed during a fight with Ka’Darrius Ferrell. Ferrell, 29, has been arrested and is facing charges of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm within a dwelling.
A press conference was held on November 2 regarding another homicide case. Laura Alaracon Cardenas was reported missing by her employer on October 25. After an investigation, Adam Hughes, 41, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a dead body.
