Nathan Upchurch, a 50-year-old man from Jackson, Georgia, has been taken into custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday night. The arrest was made by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Upchurch is now facing charges of felony murder and hit-and-run in connection with the death of Brooke Sides, a 50-year-old woman.
The Butts County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the GBI on Monday to seek their assistance in investigating Sides’ death, which took place in Jackson on October 20th at around 11:40 p.m. The authorities received a call from the Butts County 911 dispatch center, reporting the discovery of a deceased woman, later identified as Sides, in her driveway on Watkins Park and Pool Road. Upon arrival, deputies found Sides’ lifeless body.
Preliminary findings from the GBI’s investigation suggest that Sides had gone out with Upchurch, and they had a heated argument before returning home. It was during Upchurch’s departure that he allegedly ran over Sides. As a result, Upchurch was taken into custody and booked into the Butts County Jail.
The GBI’s investigation into this incident is still ongoing. If anyone has any information related to the case, they are urged to contact the Butts County Sheriff’s Office at 478-445-5102 or the GBI regional investigative office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or online via the GBI’s website.
