The Message of Scripture: Sin, Separation, and Salvation
In the book of Romans, it is made abundantly clear what Scripture is telling us about our spiritual condition and the solution to our sin problem. The words of Romans 10:9, as translated in the “Complete Jewish Bible,” summarize these key teachings:
1. All have sinned.
2. Eternal separation from ADONAI is the payment of sin.
3. For our sins, Yeshua HaMashiach has died.
Romans 10:9 (“Complete Jewish Bible”)
These concise statements capture the essence of the Christian faith and provide a foundation for understanding our need for salvation and the hope found in the person of Yeshua HaMashiach.
1. All have sinned
The first statement acknowledges the universal reality of sin. No one is exempt from its grip. Whether through our actions, thoughts, or attitudes, we have all fallen short of the perfect standard set by ADONAI (God). This recognition humbles us and reminds us of our desperate need for forgiveness and restoration.
2. Eternal separation from ADONAI is the payment of sin
The second statement highlights the consequences of sin. Sin creates a separation between humanity and ADONAI, the source of life and goodness. This separation is not merely temporal but eternal. It is a sobering reminder that our sin has dire consequences, leading to an eternal separation from the presence of God.
3. For our sins, Yeshua HaMashiach has died
The third statement brings hope and redemption into the picture. It proclaims that Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) willingly took upon Himself the punishment for our sins by dying on the cross. His sacrificial death offers the opportunity for forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life in the presence of ADONAI.
This message of sin, separation, and salvation encapsulates the heart of the Gospel. It reminds us that we are all sinners in need of God’s grace and mercy. It also emphasizes the profound love of God, who provided a way for us to be reconciled to Him through the sacrifice of His Son.
As followers of Yeshua HaMashiach, we are called to share this message with others. In doing so, we extend the invitation to experience forgiveness, restoration, and eternal life. Let us embrace the truth of Scripture and communicate it with clarity and compassion, knowing that it holds the power to transform lives.
