The family of a 14-year-old girl has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after she made a disturbing discovery in an airplane restroom. According to the lawsuit, the teenager, referred to as “Jane Doe,” claims that she was recorded by a flight attendant’s phone while on American Airlines Flight 1441 from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Boston, Massachusetts on September 2.
During the flight, the teenager needed to use the restroom and was directed by a male flight attendant, identified as “Doe 1,” to use the first-class toilets for a quicker experience. However, when she entered the restroom, she noticed that it was occupied. “Doe 1” then exited the restroom and informed her that the toilet seat was broken but would be fixed upon their return to Charlotte.
As the teenager used the toilet, she noticed an iPhone that was attached to the lid and concealed by red airline tape with the message “Remove from service.” The phone’s flash was on, leading her to believe that it was positioned to record her bathroom activities. Disturbed by this discovery, she took a picture of the phone to document the evidence.
After informing her parents of the incident, they confronted multiple flight attendants about the situation. The teenager’s father demanded to see “Doe 1’s” phone, but the flight attendant denied any involvement and claimed ignorance. The father observed the flight attendant tapping on his phone, prompting him to snatch it away. However, in the limited time he had the device, he did not see anything that resembled his daughter or incriminating evidence.
The family reported the incident to the FBI, who investigated the matter. Although they did not find evidence on the flight attendant’s phone, he was immediately suspended from work and has not returned to the airline since. The family holds American Airlines responsible for the incident, alleging that the airline negligently failed to prevent it or promptly confiscate the phone.
The lawsuit emphasizes the emotional impact on the teenager, stating that she has been deeply scarred and exhibits symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The family seeks compensation from American Airlines for the damages suffered, claiming that the airline is unquestionably liable for their failure to prevent the incident or take immediate action upon its discovery..
