A visually impaired Muslim man, identified as Hussain Saab, who is 65 years old, was reportedly attacked by two men on a motorcycle in Gangavati, Koppal district on November 25. The incident came to light on Friday, according to officials. The police have registered a case against the unidentified culprits under sections 394 (causing hurt in an attempt to robbery) and 307 (attempt to murder) based on the victim’s complaint.
The investigation conducted so far suggests that there are no visible signs of assault on Hussain Saab’s face. The authorities are currently examining the CCTV footage collected from various areas, including the bus stand, main road, and Pampanagar, in order to track down the perpetrators. It has been reported that the attackers not only physically assaulted the victim but also robbed him of ₹250.
Recounting the incident, Hussain Saab stated that he was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to return home when two strangers on a motorcycle approached him. They offered him a ride to his destination, but as soon as he got on the bike, they started assaulting him and hurling abusive language. The assault continued until they reached the Pampanagar area, where they pushed him off the bike and continued their attack.
During the assault, the attackers forced Hussain Saab to shout religious slogans and chant “Jai Shri Ram,” despite his pleas for mercy. The assailants only fled the scene when the commotion attracted the attention of locals. Currently, the victim is receiving treatment at the taluk government hospital.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and the police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the culprits. Meanwhile, the authorities are thoroughly reviewing the CCTV footage from different locations to gather more evidence..
