A 34-year-old man from Beebe, Andrew Allan Ford, has been officially charged after allegedly choking a woman during an argument to the point where she could not breathe. Ford is facing charges of class D felony aggravated assault on a family or household member and class A misdemeanor interference with emergency communications. As of Friday, he was not in custody in White County but is scheduled for plea and arraignment in White County Circuit Court on Tuesday.
The incident was reported on October 24, when a possible domestic disturbance at a residence on South Cypress Street was called in. The caller informed dispatchers that Ford had assaulted the victim and taken her phone away. When the officer arrived at the scene, Ford still had possession of the victim’s phone, and she was requesting it back. Ford explained to the officer that he and the victim were engaged in a verbal argument, and the victim’s “baby daddy” had called, threatening him. In response, Ford took the phone out of her hand.
According to the alleged victim, Ford grabbed her 3-year-old son by the head to move him out of the way when the child was in the doorway as Ford was coming out of the bathroom. This action prompted the victim to yell at Ford, who then grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against the wall. The victim stated that Ford choked her to the point where she could no longer breathe. However, officers did not observe any visible marks or bruising on the victim’s body.
In addition to Ford’s case, a warrant was also issued for William Charles Moore, a 43-year-old from North Little Rock. Moore is facing charges of class C felony fleeing in a vehicle causing danger, unclassified misdemeanor driving while intoxicated first offense, class A misdemeanor resisting arrest, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Similar to Ford, Moore was not in custody in White County on Friday, and his pre-trial hearing is scheduled for January 3.
According to the affidavit written by Detective Caleb Crump of the Beebe Police Department, Moore was driving eastbound in the westbound traffic lane of U.S. Highway 64 on October 21 at speeds exceeding 90 mph. An officer witnessed Moore crossing the center line and swerving between both eastbound lanes of traffic. When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Moore continued to drive at speeds over 70 mph in a 45-mph zone. Eventually, Moore’s vehicle slowed down near the Exit 28 overpass and jumped the curb at the Highway 64 and Highway 67 on-ramp. The car pulled over on the westbound side of the Exit 28 overpass, but it was still in drive, and the brake lights were activated.
Moore refused to comply with commands to exit the vehicle and had to be forcibly removed. The officers had to use a Taser for a 5-second drive stun to get Moore to cooperate. When taken into custody, Moore emitted a strong odor of intoxicants. However, he refused to take a breath test, and a blood draw had to be obtained after a search warrant was issued.
Another fleeing case involves Lacee Paige Vaden, a 35-year-old from Cabot. She has been officially charged with class C felony fleeing in a vehicle causing danger or death or serious physical injury. Vaden is scheduled to appear in White County Circuit Court on Tuesday for plea and arraignment but was not in the White County jail on Friday.
According to the affidavit by Detective Caleb Crump, Vaden was identified as a shoplifter at the Walmart Supercenter on October 5. When the police attempted to stop her vehicle at the intersection of Commerce Drive and West Center Street, she evaded the police unit and ran through red lights at that intersection and the intersection of West Center Street and West DeWitt Henry Drive. Vaden then headed west on Arkansas Highway 367 towards Ward at speeds exceeding 100 mph. She recklessly passed vehicles in opposing lanes of traffic and on the shoulder. Eventually, Vaden abruptly stopped at mile marker 24 on U.S. Highway 67..
