Suspect Arrested After Driving Through Cordele Christmas Parade, Facing Multiple Charges
A suspect has been apprehended and is now facing several charges in connection with a reckless driving incident during the Cordele Christmas Parade, according to the Cordele Police Department.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Cordele police officers were stationed at the intersection of 8th Ave and 7th St., effectively blocking the traffic for the ongoing Christmas parade.
However, during this time, Cody Beringause, the suspect, defiantly maneuvered his vehicle around the patrol car blockade, as confirmed by the police. Despite officers’ attempts to halt Beringause’s actions, he blatantly ignored their commands and proceeded to drive North on 7th St. while the parade was still in progress.
Cordele Police Chief Jalon Heard expressed his concern in a video statement, stating that Beringause had completely disregarded the officers’ instructions and had nearly struck several pedestrians, including children, as he entered the parade route.
Thankfully, officers were able to intercept Beringause shortly after. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of his reckless driving.
During a subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle, police discovered a baggie containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
As a consequence of his actions, 33-year-old Beringause was arrested and is now facing charges of reckless driving as well as possession of a Schedule II drug.
