Ted Hopkins: A Unique and Pivotal Character in Aussie Rules History
Sad to hear of Ted Hopkins’ passing. A unique and pivotal character in the history of Aussie rules. Hopkins was a renowned figure in the world of Australian rules football, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. His contribution to the game will always be remembered.
I had the privilege of sitting next to Ted at the 2007 Hall of Fame dinner. It was a memorable evening as the late Murray Weideman, another legendary figure, was being inducted. Weideman’s lingering bitterness about the 1970 grand final added an intriguing element to the night.
Ted Hopkins’ legacy extends beyond his playing career. He was not only a talented player but also a charismatic and influential personality. His impact on the sport went beyond the field, inspiring generations of players and fans alike.
As news of Ted Hopkins’ passing spreads, the Australian rules football community mourns the loss of a true icon. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
