Suspected Beaumont High School Students Involved in Rose Bowl Locker Room Thefts
Four students from Beaumont High School are currently under suspicion for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts that occurred in the locker room during the October 28th football game between Colorado and UCLA at the Rose Bowl, as confirmed by authorities on Monday.
At present, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, according to Lisa Derderian, spokesperson for the city of Pasadena. She further stated that the Pasadena Police have referred the matter to the District Attorney’s Office, which handles juvenile cases.
Although she couldn’t immediately verify reports from the media that the suspects were recruits for UCLA and were visiting on that day, Derderian did mention that UCLA had clarified that the individuals implicated in the incident were not on an official visit.
While officials from the Beaumont Unified School District did not disclose whether the students involved were football players at their school, Alex Sponheim, who oversees the Communications Department at the district, expressed disappointment and concern regarding the alleged involvement of Beaumont High School students in the incident. Sponheim emphasized the district’s commitment to promoting strong character and integrity among its students, stating that the actions of the suspects did not align with the core values of the school, district, and community.
Despite the fact that the students were not attending the football game as part of a school-sanctioned event, Sponheim assured that the district is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Pasadena Police.
UCLA Athletics also released a statement, acknowledging the ongoing investigation and clarifying that the individuals in question were not officially visiting the university at the time of the incident.
The thefts were discovered by the Colorado players upon their return to the locker room after the game. According to The Denver Post, the victims were four Colorado players, and the stolen items included three necklaces with medallions that were described as “diamond-plated,” a pair of headphones, and football equipment.
Fortunately, some of the stolen items have been returned, as parents of the suspects have mailed back certain pieces of property. The Pasadena Police have confirmed the recovery of additional items through the execution of a search warrant, but have not disclosed the details of the search or the specific location.
