The owner of a residential building in Hyderabad where a major fire broke out, killing nine people, is under police surveillance and will be arrested once he recovers. The cause of the fire is suspected to be electrical, and the owner is accused of illegally storing chemical drums and containers. The Hindu reported
The investigation team is currently inspecting a residential building in the Nampally area of Hyderabad, where a major fire broke out on Monday, resulting in the tragic death of nine people. The owner of the building, Ramesh Jaiswal, has been placed under police surveillance and is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Nampally. Once he recovers, he will be arrested by the Hyderabad City Police. The chief of the Hyderabad clues team, Venkanna, has stated that the cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. This conclusion is supported by CCTV footage from the area. Additionally, it has been discovered that Jaiswal had been illegally storing chemical drums and containers in the stilt of the building, which contributed to the severity of the fire. Jaiswal himself suffered a heart stroke due to smoke inhalation during the incident. The Director-General of the Telangana State Fire department, Y. Nagi Reddy, has stated that the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Jaiswal had attempted to assist in the rescue operation on the day of the fire but became unwell and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where his heart stroke was discovered. He has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304 (II) of the IPC. The condition of Mohammad Talha, a 17-year-old who sustained severe burns during the fire, remains critical. The Balaji Residence, a four-storey building with 16 flats, was heavily affected by the fire. It started in the stilt, where Jaiswal had unlawfully stored chemicals and flammable materials, and quickly spread to the upper floors..
