A senior at Louisiana Tech University has been accused of stabbing four women on campus on Monday morning. The suspect, identified as Jacoby Johnson, a 23-year-old resident of Rayville, was promptly arrested and charged with four counts of attempted second-degree murder. The incident took place outside the Lambright Sports and Wellness Center at the university.
The victims have been identified as former 3rd District Judge Cynthia Woodard, artist Annie Richardson, retired teacher Debby Hollimon, and Louisiana Tech graduate student Dominique McKane. Woodard, Richardson, and McKane were taken to a hospital in Shreveport, with Woodard and Richardson listed in critical but stable condition, and McKane in stable condition. Hollimon did not require medical treatment.
During the attacks, Johnson reportedly injured his hand with a 4-inch folding knife that was allegedly used in the stabbings. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before being apprehended by campus police without incident. Authorities have stated that the attacks appear to be random.
Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes described the incident as an unsettling event, while university President Les Guice expressed concern for the victims and emphasized the university’s commitment to safety. Johnson has been booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
