Sutter County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Joel Tinoco for Possessing Unregistered Firearm
On November 13th, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Joel Tinoco, a 32-year-old man, on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a “ghost gun.” The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., patrol deputies witnessed a black 2011 Honda disobey a red traffic light at the intersection of Highway 99 and Franklin Road in Yuba City. The vehicle displayed erratic behavior, swerving from side to side and failing to maintain its lane, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies identified Joel Tinoco as the driver. While conducting a field sobriety test on Tinoco, a sergeant arrived to offer assistance and allegedly noticed a handgun in the back pocket of the front passenger seat.
Further investigation revealed that Tinoco was a convicted felon, which prohibited him from owning firearms. Additionally, authorities discovered that the firearm in question was unregistered.
Consequently, Tinoco was immediately apprehended and subsequently booked into Sutter County Jail. His charges include driving under the influence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition.
Arrest for Illegal Possession of Ammunition
During the same early morning period, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office also arrested 21-year-old Jose Salgado for unlawfully possessing ammunition.
A deputy noticed a parked vehicle near Whitaker Hall on Second Street in Yuba City and approached the occupants, later identified as Salgado, 22-year-old Jose Gallardo, and 23-year-old Heriberto Gallardo. According to officials, these individuals appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Upon conducting a search of the vehicle, officials discovered a 12-gauge shotgun shell and a box of 17HR ammunition. The ammunition was found inside the vehicle’s glove box, directly in front of Salgado.
Additionally, authorities established that Salgado was on formal probation in Sutter County for assault with a deadly weapon. Consequently, he was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition.
Jose Gallardo and Heriberto Gallardo were released from the scene without charges. Their father later arrived and took possession of the vehicle.
