HBO is set to release a docuseries called “Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God” on Monday, which delves into the world of the Love Has Won cult in Saguache County, Colorado. The series, set to premiere on November 13th at 9 p.m., will explore the life and death of Amy Carlson, also known as Mother God. Carlson, who proclaimed herself as a spiritual savior, built a cult following through her online manifestos and live-streaming sessions.
The docuseries will provide an in-depth look at the Love Has Won cult through the perspectives of Carlson’s devoted followers and archival footage. Former members of the cult have described it as a dangerous and manipulative organization. Crestone in Saguache County served as the headquarters for Carlson’s group, where she would produce daily videos discussing her spiritual journey. Her followers referred to her as God, believing that she was the incarnation of Mother God who created heaven and earth with Father God.
The series also covers the discovery of Carlson’s body. As her health began to deteriorate, her followers believed that her death would result in her evacuation by UFO and bring salvation to humanity. In May 2021, seven individuals, all believed to be members of the Love Has Won cult, were arrested after a mummified body was found in Saguache County. The body, later identified as Carlson, was found in a back bedroom adorned with Christmas tree lights and arranged in what appeared to be a shrine.
By providing a more detailed account of the Love Has Won cult and its leader, the docuseries aims to shed light on the dangerous practices and beliefs that led to Carlson’s tragic death. It serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of charismatic leaders and the potential harm that can be inflicted on vulnerable individuals who become ensnared in such organizations..
