Warren Woman Arrested After Fleeing Police and Abandoning Puppy
A 25-year-old woman from Warren, Selena Maria Martin, has been charged with felony fleeing and eluding and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license after she reportedly fled from police during a traffic stop in Farmington Hills. The incident, which occurred on November 8 during the evening rush hour, escalated when Martin refused to pull over for a traffic offense on Haggerty Road near 10 Mile Road.
According to the Farmington Hills Police Department, officers attempted to stop Martin, but she accelerated and began weaving between vehicles, even driving into oncoming traffic. Concerned for public safety, the pursuing officers decided to terminate the chase as Martin was recklessly speeding, cutting off other vehicles, and even running a red light. Despite the termination of the pursuit, Martin continued to drive recklessly for another six miles, endangering countless citizens of the community.
During her reckless escape, patrol officers witnessed Martin’s vehicle traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph on M-5, passing vehicles on the shoulder, and driving at excess speeds on Orchard Lake Road. Even Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King, who happened to be driving in his personal vehicle at the time, observed Martin illegally passing traffic in a right-turn-only lane at speeds over 90 mph. At this point, no officers were actively pursuing Martin.
Eventually, Martin’s dangerous escapade came to a crashing halt when she collided with another vehicle on Orchard Lake Road, just south of 12 Mile Road. After the collision, Martin and her passenger, a 14-year-old girl also from Warren, fled the scene. Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash did not sustain any injuries.
However, what makes this case even more appalling is the alleged abandonment of a puppy by Martin and the teenager. Police reports indicate that Martin and the girl left the puppy in a construction site dumpster, as it was slowing down their escape. Law enforcement officers swiftly located and rescued the abandoned puppy from the dumpsters in the area. The puppy has since been adopted by a member of the community.
Martin and the teenager complained of neck injuries resulting from the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The teenager, who is not related to Martin, was later placed under the care of a guardian.
Following the incident, Martin was arrested and booked into the Oakland County Jail. She is currently being held on a $10,000 bond with a 10 percent provision. Martin’s prior criminal record includes two convictions for fleeing and eluding police.
Police Chief Jeff King expressed concern over the increasing number of incidents involving suspects fleeing from law enforcement. He emphasized that such dangerous and criminal behavior would not be tolerated in the City of Farmington Hills.
