A 46-year-old man from Habersham County, Joshua Adam Doster, has been arrested following a brief chase on Sunday that started in Cornelia and ended in Banks County. Doster is facing multiple charges related to entering auto and burglary cases in the area.
On November 12, at around 9:39 a.m., officers from the Cornelia Police Department received a report of a possible burglary at 706 Skyland Drive. The homeowners provided video evidence showing Doster attempting to break into their residence.
When officers tried to stop Doster’s truck as he was leaving the area, he refused to comply and fled the scene. He drove recklessly through side roads within the city limits, prompting multiple law enforcement agencies to engage in a high-speed pursuit that extended into Banks County.
The pursuit ultimately resulted in a rollover accident on Wofford Creek Road off Hwy. 441. At the request of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, an Alto police officer performed a PIT maneuver, causing the truck to overturn before landing on its wheels. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident, and the Alto police vehicle was undamaged.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating several incidents potentially involving Doster. Earlier on the same day, he allegedly broke into another home on Foster Street in Cornelia while the resident was present. Items from the residence are now missing.
Deputies also responded to multiple reports of auto break-ins on South Quail Trail near Cornelia Elementary School. During the pursuit, various items were observed flying out of Doster’s truck, some of which were later identified as belonging to the victim on South Quail Trail. Additionally, a quantity of suspected marijuana and drug-related objects such as syringes were discovered strewn along the road.
Doster has been charged by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office with second-degree burglary, six counts of entering auto, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects. The Cornelia Police Department has charged him with first-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit burglary, and fleeing and attempting to elude. Furthermore, the trooper from Georgia State Patrol Post 6 has charged Doster with driving under the influence.
The rollover accident is currently being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.
