KATHMANDU, Nov 13: In a tragic incident during the celebration of Laxmi Puja, an 83-year-old senior citizen lost her life due to a fire caused by a butter-lamp.
The victim has been identified as Sabitra Devi Malla, an 83-year-old woman residing in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Bhaktapur.
According to Bhaktapur DSP Basanta Pathak, the incident occurred as Malla was lighting a lamp on the second floor of a three-story house to worship Goddess Laxmi. Unfortunately, the flame caught onto her clothing, resulting in a dangerous fire.
In a desperate attempt to save his wife, Malla’s husband, 85-year-old Guru Prasad Dahal, poured water on her. However, the fire continued to rage, ultimately leading to Malla’s untimely demise, as confirmed by DSP Pathak.
The local police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fire.
