Two soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces were arrested after a bar explosion in Sotik, Bomet County. Explosion at Bar in Chebole Trading Centre in Sotik, Bomet County Leads to Arrest of Kenya Defence Forces Soldiers
Two soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces, namely Private Alphonse Rotich and Peter Kibet, have been arrested following an explosion that occurred at Daima Bar and Restaurant in the Chebole trading centre located in Sotik, Bomet County. The incident took place on Saturday at around 8:50 pm.
The arrest of the soldiers came after a report was filed by village elder Noah Kimutai, who reported the incident at the trading centre. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the explosion.
Upon reaching the scene, the police discovered two grenade pins that were suspected to be from the grenades that had detonated earlier. Additionally, they found a black bag containing four grenades, specifically NF24 48mm sound grenades, as well as personal belongings belonging to Rotich.
The police revealed that Rotich, who is stationed at the 21KA in Nyanyuki, was off duty at the time of the incident. On the other hand, Kibet, who serves at 17KA in Modika Garissa, was on leave.
Although the motive behind the explosion remains unclear, authorities have summoned detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Anti-Terror Police Unit to interrogate those involved in the incident.
The arrested soldiers are currently being held at Mutarakwa Police Post.
