Dhaba Owner Brutally Murdered for Refusing Diwali Bonus
A dhaba owner in Nagpur, Maharashtra, met a tragic end after being beaten to death by two of his workers. The incident occurred on Saturday in the early hours near Kuhi phata in Nagpur rural police area. Raju Dhengre, the victim, was allegedly strangled, stabbed, and bludgeoned to death by Chhotu and Adi, his workers, who demanded a Diwali bonus.
Chhotu and Adi, both hailing from Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, are currently on the run and have not been apprehended by the police. It was revealed that Dhengre had hired the accused duo through a labor contractor in the city about a month ago.
During dinner, a dispute arose between Dhengre, Adi, and Chhotu regarding their demand for money and a bonus on Diwali. Although Dhengre was willing to pay them, he had agreed to do so at a later date. This disagreement escalated into a violent altercation.
After dinner, Dhengre went to sleep on a cot, unaware of the danger looming over him. It was at this moment that Adi and Chhotu attacked him, strangling him with a rope, bludgeoning his head with a blunt object, and slashing his face with a sharp weapon.
According to a report by The Times of India, Dhengre, the victim, was a former village head of Surgaon village in Kuhi taluka and had recently won the gram panchayat polls.
Superintendent of Police, Harssh A Poddar, stated that the motive behind the murder appears to be a monetary dispute, but the police are also exploring a possible political rivalry angle.
Poddar added, “The case is being investigated from different angles.” Sources have revealed that Dhengre had a good reputation and strong political connections, particularly with the BJP.
After committing the heinous crime, Chhotu and Adi covered Dhengre’s body with a quilt and fled in his car. However, they crashed the vehicle into a divider on Nagpur-Umred road near Vihirgaon and sustained injuries. CCTV footage captured the perpetrators leaving the car and fleeing towards Dighori naka.
The fugitives hailed an e-rickshaw from Dighori, and their subsequent movements have not been traced.
Dhengre’s daughter made multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach him by phone. Eventually, she contacted a nearby pan kiosk owner who discovered Dhengre’s lifeless body on the cot and raised the alarm.
