This incident took place on November 10, 2023, along Kasalamatan Street in Kasanyangan village. The Contraband Seizure
The police officers were initially engaged in monitoring the presence of a notorious wanted person within the area. However, during their patrol, they unexpectedly stumbled upon a parked vehicle along Kasalamatan Street. Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the vehicle was loaded with 14 master cases of cigarettes, which held an estimated value of P490,000.
The Arrest and Lack of Documentation
Despite the substantial amount of contraband found, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Abdulgani Amil, 39, was unable to produce any legal documents to validate the cargo. Consequently, the police arrested Amil and seized both the vehicle and its contents.
Proper Disposition and Investigation
Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo ensured that the seized vehicle, its driver, and the confiscated cigarettes were taken to the Zamboanga City Police Station 6 (ZCPS6) for thorough documentation. Subsequently, these items will be transferred to the Bureau of Customs, which will determine their proper disposition.
Vehicle Ownership Verification
To further investigate the incident, the ZCPS6 has initiated coordination with the Land Transportation Office to identify the rightful owner of the vehicle involved.
