An Akron, Indiana man named Robert Workman, who was wanted in multiple counties, was recently arrested by state police. The incident began when troopers spotted Workman driving a Cadillac Escalade on Interstate 70 near mile marker 114. They attempted to pull him over, but he refused and led them on a chase that started in Henry County and ended in Hancock County. During the pursuit, police deployed stop sticks, which punctured both of Workman’s passenger side tires. However, he continued driving with the flats and even after the tires flew off and the axles broke, he still tried to drive on the rims. Eventually, the vehicle became immobilized near mile marker 87. Workman then barricaded himself inside the Escalade, but law enforcement used pepper ball guns and tasers to de-escalate the situation.
Jennifer Workman, a female passenger in the Escalade, also complied with police commands and was taken into custody. Upon searching the vehicle, troopers discovered methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. It was later revealed that Robert Workman had active warrants in three counties. As a result, he now faces seven preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, which is a Level 5 Felony. Jennifer Workman has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, both of which are considered Level 6 Felonies in Indiana.
Overall, this incident involved a high-speed chase, the deployment of stop sticks, the use of pepper ball guns and tasers, and the discovery of illegal drugs. The actions of the police led to the apprehension of two individuals who were wanted by law enforcement in multiple counties..
