In an incident that unfolded in Southington, Connecticut, two Waterbury men were arrested on charges of larceny, narcotics, and weapons possession. The chaotic scene began when a stolen car was spotted and pinned against a building. As the police approached, one of the men attempted to flee on foot while the other quickly took his place behind the wheel, trying to escape. Both individuals were subsequently apprehended and are currently being held on a $1 million bond.
According to the Southington Police Department, the incident occurred at around 7:43 p.m. when a license plate reader alerted officers to the presence of a stolen vehicle entering the town. The stolen Nissan Maxima was located in the parking lot of 1664 Meriden Waterbury Road, with Damon Davis, 28, and Tiomonte Morgan, 27, both residents of Waterbury, inside.
Video footage released by the police shows officers attempting to block the stolen car in order to prevent its escape. However, Davis, who was driving the stolen vehicle, rammed into the police car, trying to break free. In the process, he also hit another vehicle parked nearby, which was occupied by a customer of a nearby business.
In the video, Davis can be seen exiting the Nissan and attempting to flee the scene on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by the pursuing officers. Upon searching Davis, the police discovered that he was in possession of a handgun with its serial number obliterated, 70 bags of fentanyl, and nearly $2,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, Morgan took advantage of the chaos and got behind the wheel of the stolen car. He attempted to escape by backing up and hitting both a commercial building and another unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot. However, his efforts were thwarted by the police.
The video footage also shows the officers forcefully dragging Davis back into the business. Morgan, on the other hand, managed to drive a short distance through the parking lot before ramming another Southington police cruiser. As the police surrounded the stolen car, Morgan made one last desperate attempt to escape by ramming between two police vehicles. However, the stolen vehicle eventually became disabled, and Morgan was removed from it through the driver’s side window.
A thorough search of the stolen car yielded alarming findings. Among the items confiscated were a loaded Glock handgun, which was determined to have been stolen and modified to function as a fully automatic weapon. Additionally, the officers discovered 610 individual bags of fentanyl packaged for sale, 6.6 grams of powdered fentanyl, 7.1 grams of powdered cocaine, 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine, and various drug paraphernalia associated with drug sales.
Further investigation revealed that the same stolen car had been involved in an incident in Middletown, where a police cruiser was also damaged.
As a result of their actions, Damon Davis is facing charges of first-degree larceny, second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, obliterated serial number, first-degree criminal mischief, and two counts of possession with intent to sell.
