On October 28, 2023, Deputy Morgan responded to various complaints including trespassing, a welfare check, and a suspicious vehicle. On October 29, Joshua Allen and Jeffrey Davis were arrested for domestic violence and drug possession. Other incidents included accidents and theft reports. Lewiston Sun Journal reported
On October 28, 2023, at 12:28pm, Deputy Morgan was called to investigate a trespass complaint on Holley Road in New Vineyard. Later that day, at 2:06pm, Deputy Morgan received another complaint of hunters trespassing off Pope Road in Chesterville, and the Warden service was notified. At 2:34pm, Deputy Morgan was requested to conduct a welfare check at a residence on Lucy Knowles Road in Chesterville, and fortunately, the person was found to be okay. At 2:59pm, Detective Richards received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle and occupants on Route 4 in Avon. Then, at 3:04pm, Deputy Elmes received a complaint of gunshots near a residence on Main Street in Rangeley.
At 3:23pm, Deputy Morgan investigated a civil issue regarding a personal property dispute at a residence on Stewart Drive in Strong. Later in the day, at 5:01pm, Detective Davol participated in a Trunk or Treat event in Kingfield, and at 5:17pm, Deputy Elmes participated in a similar event in Rangeley. In the evening, at 10:26pm, Sgt. Sholan received a complaint of a car being driven erratically on Mile Hill Road in New Sharon.
The following day, on October 29, 2023, at 5:07am, Deputy Morgan, Deputy DiSilvestro, Deputy Gray, and Lt. St. Laurent responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Bailey Hill Road in New Sharon. As a result of the investigation, Joshua Allen (39) of New Sharon was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence Threatening, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention. During a follow-up investigation, Jeffrey Davis (36) of New Sharon was charged with Unlawful Possession of Schedule Drugs.
Later in the morning, at 5:34am, Deputy Morgan received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle at the boat launch on Varnum Pond Road in Temple. At 11:32am, Deputy Gray investigated a report of theft of services at the Town and Lake Motel in Rangeley, but there was not enough evidence to support the allegation. At 12:42pm, Deputy Morgan received a 911 call at a residence on Farmington Falls Road in New Sharon, which turned out to be an accidental dial.
In the afternoon, at 1:05pm, Deputy Gray checked on the status of an elderly woman who would not have heat in her house until a contractor arrived on Monday. At 2:53pm, Sgt. Bean conducted a security detail while people exchanged property at a residence on Lucy Knowles Road in Chesterville. At 5:14pm, Deputy Elmes investigated an alleged threatening complaint at a residence on Pleasant Street in Rangeley, but no charges were filed. At 5:32pm, Deputy DiSilvestro responded to a mental health emergency call at a residence on Kimball Pond Road in New Sharon.
On October 30, 2023, at 6:23am, Deputy Couture investigated a harassment complaint at Valley Brook Village in Strong. At 7:40am, Deputy Gray responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Rumford Road in Rangeley Plt. Thomas Thibeau (27) of Rumford was driving a 2012 Chevy pickup when he went off the road into the ditch. Koob’s Garage was called to the scene. At 8:17am, Deputy Couture responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Main Street in Kingfield. Matthew Moriarty (37) of Portland was driving a 2004 Toyota when he lost control in the slush and slid off the road, striking a tree stump. No injuries were reported, and the Kingfield Fire Department responded to the scene.
At 8:43am, Deputy Gray responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Route 17 in Letter D Twp. Exequiel Medrano-Reyes (30) of Boston, Massachusets, was driving a 2014 Toyota when he lost control and ran off the road into the ditch. At 11:21am, Deputy Gray responded to Old Bray Hill Road in Phillips regarding a report of a truck off the road, but no damage was reported. At 11:40am, Deputy Couture responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Salem Road in Freeman Twp. Julia Burdin (31) of Strong was driving a 2017 GMC Acadia when she lost control and ran into the ditch.
At 12:27pm, Deputy Couture responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on North Main Street in Strong. Ethan Sniadecki (17) of Phillips was driving a 2009 Ford Escape when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled over into the ditch. The Strong Fire Department responded to the scene, and Main Street Service removed the vehicle. At 1:18pm, Deputy Couture responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Norton Hill Road in Strong. Erick Davignon (27) of Laconia, New Hampshire, was driving a 2013 Chevy Camaro when he lost control in the slush and went into the ditch.
In the evening, at 3:22pm, Sgt. Close investigated a trespassing complaint at Rangeley Elderly Apartments in Rangeley. At 4:09pm, Sgt. Ean responded to the Mercer Road in New Sharon where a vehicle was reported to be in the ditch, but no damage or injuries were reported. At 5:07pm, Sgt. Close investigated damage done to an ATV trail bridge on Swett Brook Lane in Weld. At 6:33pm, Sgt. Bean and K-9 Bain responded to a request for a K-9 on Wilton Road in Farmington.
On October 31, 2023, at 10:11am, Deputy Couture received a 911 call at a residence on Zions Hill Road in Chesterville, which was an accidental dial. At 3:09pm, Deputy Couture received a complaint of a truck hauling dirt on Route 27 in New Vineyard with an open tailgate, dropping dirt, rocks, and tree branches onto the road. The driver was located and charged with Operating with an Unsecured Load. At 5:58pm, Sgt. Close responded to a car vs. deer accident on the Mercer Road in New Sharon. Jason Lunt (52) of New Sharon was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram when the collision occurred.
In the evening, at 9:06pm, Sgt. Close responded to a report of a suicidal person at a residence on Lucy Knowles Road in Chesterville. The person was transported to FMH by Sgt. Close to be evaluated. At 11:56pm, Sgt. Close received a 911 call at a residence on Zions Hill Road in Chesterville, and the caller was warned about using 911 inappropriately.
On November 1, 2023, at 7:40am, Deputy Couture responded to a report of a suspicious male sitting in a ditch on Swan Road in New Sharon, but the person was gone upon arrival. At 9:02am, Deputy Couture investigated a complaint of fraudulent checks being written on Norton Hill Road in Strong. At 9:46am, Sgt. Sholan responded to the New Sharon town office where a suspicious person was reported in the parking lot. The person was identified as a private investigator working in the area.
At 11:40am, Deputy Couture assisted Leesburg Police Department from Florida with a missing persons complaint where the subject was in Avon. At 12:17pm, Sgt. Sholan received a complaint regarding a person who lives on River Road in Avon, which had been previously reported a month ago. At 3:00pm, Sgt. Close and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office received information that a person who had been wanted for over 2 years was seen entering an RV located off Park Street in Phillips. They surrounded the RV, obtained a search warrant, and called out the subject to exit the RV. When the subject refused to answer, they forced the door open and arrested William Waas (39) of Jay for the warrant and for violating conditions of release. Nicole Waas (38) of Phillips was also arrested for hindering apprehension or prosecution and violating conditions of release.
Later in the afternoon, at 4:24pm, Deputy DiSilvestro investigated a report of a theft of a generator from a residence on Reeds Mill Road in Madrid Twp. At 4:50pm, Deputy Elmes received a complaint of a welfare check/missing person from Beverly, Massachusetts, who was supposed to arrive at a residence in Lynn Way in Rangeley to pick up a snowmobile, but the man never arrived. Maine State Police and local police in Massachusetts were notified, and it was determined that this was a situation where one spouse was separating from another.
At 4:54pm, Sgt. Close responded to a report of a dump truck that had rolled onto its side on South Strong Road in Strong. Seth Weber (38) of New Vineyard was driving a 1992 Peterbilt dump truck when he lost control and ran off the road, causing the truck to roll over. No injuries were reported, and the Strong Fire Department responded to the scene..
