Dexter Woman Hospitalized After Collision and Vehicle Extraction
A woman was taken to the hospital earlier this week following a collision and the subsequent extraction from her vehicle, according to a statement from the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident took place at the intersection of Radio and Roosevelt Roads on Monday, just before 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered two severely damaged vehicles and a detached trailer on the southwest side of the intersection. Inside a black GMC Sierra, the driver, identified as Geneva Culp, was trapped but conscious and alert. Calloway County Fire-Rescue successfully extricated her from the vehicle, and she was then transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital by EMS.
Auston Hatler, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision, informed the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department that he had no recollection of the incident or how the collision occurred. He sustained a minor forehead laceration but declined medical assistance at the scene.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Department later spoke with Culp at the hospital. She recounted that she was traveling southbound on Radio Road, approaching the intersection at Roosevelt Road when the collision occurred. At the intersection, there is a flashing yellow light and posted signs instructing traffic on Roosevelt Road to stop. Culp stated that she observed Hatler’s vehicle briefly stop on the east side of Roosevelt Road before continuing westbound. Unfortunately, Hatler’s vehicle entered her lane of travel, leaving her unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
