A 32-year-old man named R Sathish from Coimbatore, India, has been arrested by the city cybercrime police for uploading morphed obscene photos and videos of his 24-year-old female relative on Instagram. The woman, who works in the IT sector, filed a complaint on February 7, stating that her photos were uploaded on a fake Instagram profile along with her mobile phone number. This led to her receiving phone calls from people inquiring about escort services.
The cybercrime police launched an investigation and registered a case against Sathish under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act. They discovered that the Instagram account was created using a temporary email address. By tracing the internet protocol address, they were able to apprehend Sathish on Wednesday.
According to the investigating officer, Sathish admitted to creating nine fake Instagram profiles as a way to seek revenge on his disrespectful relatives, including the woman who filed the complaint. He believed that his relatives were disrespecting him and used the obscene content to humiliate them. Sathish was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. He is currently held at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
