A Monticello resident, Joshua Hardwick, was apprehended by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office following a complaint about a disorderly individual at the Pulaski Social Security Office. Hardwick, 35, was charged with several offenses including Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place, second-degree Assault (Police Officer), first-degree Strangulation, and first-degree Disorderly Conduct.
The incident occurred at around 4:27 p.m. when PCSO Deputy Dylan West was dispatched to the Social Security Office in response to the complaint. However, upon arrival, Hardwick had already left the premises but was later found outside. Deputy West observed signs of intoxication in Hardwick and proceeded to inform him that he was being placed under arrest.
While attempting to handcuff Hardwick, the suspect resisted arrest and physically assaulted Deputy West. According to PCSO, Hardwick struck Deputy West in the face, causing injury. During the altercation, Hardwick managed to overpower Deputy West, choking and strangling him. Fortunately, with the assistance of a security officer from the Social Security Office, Deputy West was eventually able to apprehend Hardwick.
Hardwick was subsequently taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries he allegedly sustained while being restrained in the back of the police cruiser. After receiving medical attention, he was then transferred to the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he is currently being held. Deputy Dylan West also received medical treatment at the same hospital for injuries sustained during the arrest.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and is being conducted by Deputy Joey Johnson from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. It is important to note that these charges are merely accusations, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
