A man has been identified and charged in connection with a human smuggling attempt that ended in a crash at a water treatment facility in Webb County, Texas.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 24th at 11 a.m. when Webb County Sheriff Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Blue Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 900 block of Espejo Molina. The driver, later identified as Miguel Cruz, refused to comply and fled from authorities.
Shortly after, the damaged Chevrolet Trailblazer was found at the Rio Bravo Treatment Plant, where it had collided with the facility’s gate. At the scene, several undocumented immigrants were discovered exiting the vehicle and were apprehended by Webb County Deputies and Border Patrol agents.
Meanwhile, Cruz managed to escape from the crash site, but forensic evidence later led to his identification. Subsequently, C.I.D. Investigators obtained thirteen arrest warrants for Cruz, with a combined bond amount of $520,000.00.
Ultimately, Cruz was apprehended while in custody at The Frio County Jail on an unrelated charge. He now faces multiple charges including human smuggling, evading arrest-detention with a motor vehicle, duty on striking a fixture, and reckless driving.
