In Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, a shocking incident occurred where three young children were found alone and unsupervised inside a North Sherman Street apartment. This resulted in the mother, Juque Hamilton, facing charges for endangering the welfare of her children.
The situation unfolded when a concerned woman called 911 to report that three children were home alone in an apartment on North Sherman Street. Promptly responding to the call, the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department arrived at the scene. However, upon their arrival, they noticed a heated altercation between Hamilton and a man on Coal Street. Hamilton quickly fled the scene in a car, but the police were able to apprehend her.
During the subsequent investigation, it was revealed that Hamilton had left her six-year-old, three-year-old, and five-month-old children alone in the apartment while she went to pick up their father. The affidavit states that Hamilton vehemently argued with the officers, attempting to justify her actions.
Concerned for the well-being of the children, the police decided to check on them at Hamilton’s apartment. To their dismay, they discovered the home in deplorable conditions. The apartment was littered with dirty clothes, dirty dishes, expired food, and the strong smell of marijuana permeated the air. These appalling living conditions only added to the gravity of the situation.
Recognizing the immediate danger the children were in, the police placed them under the protective custody of a Luzerne County Children and Youth Services caseworker. This decision was made to ensure the children’s safety and well-being.
Hamilton now faces serious consequences for her actions. She has been charged with six counts of endangering the welfare of children. As a result, she has been taken into custody and is being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a bail amount of $50,000.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible parenting and the duty to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children. The authorities involved are committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure the children’s welfare and to hold the mother accountable for her neglectful actions..
