A deputy in Pulaski County, Kentucky, was injured during an arrest when a man allegedly hit and strangled him. The suspect, Joshua Hardwick, was charged with various offenses and both he and the deputy were treated at a local hospital. ABC 36 News reported
A Pulaski County deputy in Somerset, Kentucky was injured during an arrest on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Deputy Dylan West responded to a complaint about a disorderly person at the Social Security Office in Pulaski County around 4:30 p.m. The disorderly person was identified as Joshua Hardwick, a resident of Monticello.
Upon arrival, Deputy West noticed that Hardwick appeared to be intoxicated and informed him that he was under arrest. However, when West attempted to handcuff Hardwick, the suspect resisted and struck the deputy in the face. Not only that, but Hardwick also proceeded to choke and strangle Deputy West.
Fortunately, the security officer from the Social Security Office came to West’s aid, allowing him to successfully apprehend Hardwick. Subsequently, Hardwick was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, strangulation, and disorderly conduct. After receiving treatment at a local hospital for his injuries, Hardwick was taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center.
Deputy West also required medical attention for his injuries, which he received at the same hospital. The incident highlights the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis while carrying out their duties to protect the public..
