Two Suspects Arrested in Separate Buy-Bust Operations for Killing a Man in Cebu City
Introduction
In the early morning of November 9, 2023, the police apprehended two individuals in Sitio Lutaw-Lutaw, Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City, for their involvement in the shooting and killing of a man. The suspects, identified as Jason Flores, 27, and Leobert Abajo, 33, both residents of the area, were taken into custody during separate buy-bust operations. Both Flores and Abajo worked as porters in Carbon Public Market, adding to the shock and concern within the community.
The Arrests and Seizures
Acting swiftly, the authorities managed to apprehend Flores first at 1:25 a.m. During his arrest, the police confiscated 10 grams of suspected shabu, a highly addictive illegal drug, with an estimated street value of P68,000. Additionally, they discovered a .38 revolver in his possession, loaded with three live rounds. Shortly after, at 4:30 a.m., Abajo was successfully captured by the police. They found five grams of alleged shabu, worth around P34,000, along with a Frontier pistol containing two live rounds. The meticulousness of the police operation was evident, and it highlighted their dedication to eradicating illegal drug activities in the area.
The Involvement in a Previous Crime
Flores and Abajo were not only apprehended for their recent involvement in the shooting and killing of a man, but they were also linked to a previous crime. On June 13, 2013, in the same location of Sitio Lutaw-Lutaw, the suspects allegedly killed Coel Jay Pacadar, a 30-year-old resident of Consolacion town. The motive behind this brutal act stemmed from an altercation that occurred when Pacadar confronted the suspects for staring at him while he was inside his parked car. CCTV footage captured Abajo approaching the victim and engaging in a conversation. However, Flores, without warning, followed them and shot Pacadar, resulting in his instantaneous death. Shockingly, the suspects nonchalantly left the scene after committing the crime.
The Denial and Legal Proceedings
During the subsequent police investigation, Flores and Abajo vehemently denied the allegations made against them. Despite their denial, the police are diligently waiting for the victim’s family to come forward and officially file murder charges against the perpetrators. This step is crucial in ensuring that justice is served and that the accused face appropriate legal consequences for their actions.
Conclusion
The arrest of Jason Flores and Leobert Abajo has brought a sense of relief to the community in Sitio Lutaw-Lutaw, Cebu City. The successful buy-bust operations not only resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs but also potentially solved a previous murder case. The police’s dedication and unwavering efforts in combating illegal drug activities serve as a testament to their commitment to maintaining peace and order within the community.
