Two individuals were apprehended on Friday, November 3rd, after a high-speed chase that spanned three counties in Indiana, according to a press release issued by the Indiana State Police. The incident began when Trooper Kegan Kern of the Peru Post noticed a 2018 Dodge Durango with expired registration plates returning to a different vehicle while he was patrolling on U.S. 31 in Miami County around 9:35 p.m. The driver of the Dodge, later identified as Marion McGrew, a 19-year-old from Indianapolis, immediately fled at alarming speeds, prompting Kern to initiate a pursuit.
As the chase progressed through the roadways of Miami, Fulton, and Marshall counties, McGrew reached speeds of approximately 115 miles per hour. He even resorted to passing other vehicles on the right shoulder while intermittently turning off the vehicle lights to evade capture. The pursuit finally led to Sweetgum Road in Marshall County, where deputies had strategically placed tire deflation devices across the road. In a bid to avoid the devices, McGrew veered off the roadway but continued northbound on U.S. 31 before turning west onto 9A road. Eventually, he merged onto King Road and brazenly ran a red light at the intersection of US 30. The Indiana State Police decided to terminate the pursuit at this point, leaving the responsibility to the Fulton and Marshall County Deputies.
Shortly thereafter, the Indiana State Police received information that the Dodge had crashed into a field. Both McGrew and his passenger, Pierre Robinson, a 19-year-old from Mishawaka, were apprehended without incident. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Subsequent investigation revealed that McGrew did not possess a valid driver’s license and that the Dodge had been reported stolen from Chicago, Illinois. A search of the vehicle yielded multiple firearms and suspected marijuana. Additionally, it was discovered that McGrew had two active felony warrants from Iowa. Both suspects were subsequently incarcerated at the Miami County Jail.
As a result of the pursuit and the subsequent investigation, McGrew is facing several charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, theft of a vehicle, unlawful carrying of a handgun, aggressive driving, driving without a license, and reckless driving. On the other hand, Robinson has been charged with theft of a vehicle, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and possession of marijuana.
Kern received assistance from various law enforcement agencies and emergency services during the course of the incident, including the Indiana State Police Peru Post, Indiana State Police Bremen Post, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Bremen Police Department, Marshall County EMS, and Lyons Towing.
