In the early hours of Sunday morning, a man in New York City gruesomely killed four of his relatives, including two young children, in a horrifying knife attack. After committing these heinous acts, he proceeded to set the building on fire. As if that wasn’t enough, he then attacked two police officers with his knife before one of them had no choice but to fatally shoot him in self-defense. This terrifying rampage unfolded in Far Rockaway, a peaceful seaside neighborhood in Queens.
The tragic events began when a distressed young girl called 911, informing the authorities that her cousin was murdering her family. Upon arriving at the scene at approximately 5:10 a.m., the officers encountered a man attempting to flee the area with luggage. Without warning, he brandished a knife and launched a vicious attack. One officer suffered stab wounds to his neck and chest, while the other was slashed in the head. It was only after one of the officers discharged their firearm that the assailant was finally neutralized.
Disturbingly, an 11-year-old girl was discovered outside the house and rushed to the hospital, but sadly succumbed to her stab wounds. The police faced further obstacles as they attempted to enter the residence due to a raging fire that had engulfed the living room and foyer. After overcoming this hurdle, they discovered three additional victims who had been fatally stabbed: a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s. Tragically, a 61-year-old woman also sustained grave injuries during the attack and is currently in critical condition, fighting multiple stab wounds.
Fortunately, both injured police officers are expected to recover from their harrowing ordeal. However, attempts to reach out to potential neighbors for information about the family were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The suspect responsible for this nightmarish scenario has been identified as Courtney Gordon, a 38-year-old man who had been visiting the family from his home in the Bronx. The identities of his victims have not yet been released.
Patrick Hendry, the head of the New York Police Department’s police union, described the scene as absolute chaos, with multiple victims, a burning house, and a deranged individual on a murderous mission. Nevertheless, he commended the brave officer who managed to shoot and stop the assailant despite being stabbed, praising their incredible skill.
This tragic incident comes just a week after another horrifying knife attack in the Bronx, where a college student, who claimed to be hearing voices, took the lives of his father, his 5-year-old half-brother, and the little boy’s mother.
