A knife-wielding man in New York killed four members of the same family and injured two police officers before being shot dead himself. Authorities suspect the motive to be a domestic dispute.
According to Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, the incident occurred in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens. The police were called to the scene by a woman who reported that her cousin was killing members of her family. Upon arrival, two officers confronted the suspect outside the house. The 38-year-old man then attacked the officers with a knife, leading to one of the officers shooting him in self-defense. Inside the house, the officers discovered an 11-year-old child who was critically injured and later died in the hospital. Fire prevented immediate entry into the house, but once inside, the police found three other victims – a 12-year-old child, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s. Another victim, a 61-year-old woman, was hospitalized with serious stab wounds.
The injured officers are expected to recover. The suspect, identified as Courtney Gordon, 38, had a previous arrest related to domestic violence. He had been visiting the family from his home in the Bronx.
