Wisconsin Rapids Police Utilize K9 Unit to Apprehend Suspect
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a dramatic chase unfolded in Wisconsin Rapids as local law enforcement utilized a police dog to capture a suspect who attempted to flee from the authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:59 a.m. when a Wood County K9 Unit observed a vehicle traveling at a dangerously high speed and swerving across lanes on W. Grand Avenue in the City of Wisconsin Rapids. Acting swiftly, the deputy activated emergency lights in an attempt to pull over the vehicle. However, the driver did not comply immediately and continued driving for a short distance before finally stopping in a parking lot at the intersection of 12th Avenue S and Chase Street. Seizing the opportunity, the driver swiftly exited the car and fled on foot.
Unwilling to let the suspect evade justice, the deputy pursued him on foot and made efforts to apprehend him. However, the suspect put up a fight and resisted arrest. In response, the deputy called upon the assistance of K9 Bingo, who quickly subdued the suspect, enabling the police to successfully make the arrest.
The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Aaron J. Winters from Wisconsin Rapids. Following his capture, Winters was immediately taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation before being transferred to the Wood County Jail. Winters is now facing multiple charges, including battery to a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence (OWI) for the third time.
